From Waste to Wildlife

Shotgun cartridges have long been treated as single-use items, destined for landfill. After use, they quickly become somebody else's job to dispose of. With our industry-first Upcycling Network, we divert thousands of paper and plastic cases every year. Each cartridge is collected, cleaned, and repurposed to hold our premium mixes of annual wildflower seeds, perennial wildflower seeds, and specialist perennial plants like yellow rattle, whose seed pods give the plant its name. Once sown, these cases transform newly planted areas into thriving patches of colour, supporting bees, butterflies, and other vital pollinators whilst sequestering about 300 grams of carbon per square meter.

Looking Ahead

In Autumn 2025, we will launch our new “slab sticker” initiative for boxes of 250 cartridges. This will prompt shooters to upcycle their used paper cases via our free nationwide collection service. Paper cartridges, coated with waterproof lacquer, cannot be recycled—but we give them a new life as tools that hold annual and perennial seeds for habitat recovery, encouraging the establishment of new wildflower meadow habitats in urban, semi-urban, and rural locations.

How You Can Get Involved

We encourage upcycling at every stage. Return three or more empty cases to us after planting and receive a free 8 Species Annuals Case with your next purchase. You can return them by post, at a market or show, or through one of our retail partners.

Upcycled in Britain. Made in Britain. Enabling new habitats in Britain.
